In online marketing, a landing page is an online web page that potential customers or visitors "land" on. These pages are also called landers, opt-in pages, sales pages, squeeze pages, landing page templates, and lead capture pages.
Here's an example of a landing page.
We have two types of pages: Click Through landing pages and Lead Generation landing pages. Let's look at each of those.
Click Through Landing Pages have an important task: they must persuade a visitor of the site to click through to another page. These pages describe a product or service in enough detail so that the customer wants to know more, getting closer and closer to making a decision to purchase. For these pages to be effective, customers must learn enough to make an informed decision. Those pages take potential customers to the destination page--which is typically the shopping cart or registration page. Hopefully since the customers have clicked through the landing page, they will be interested in making a purchase.
Lead Generation Landing Pages are used to capture information about potential customers, generally their names and email addresses. The sole purpose of these pages is to collect contact information about potential customers so that you can send them more information later on. Often one of these pages will contain a form along with a description of what customers will get in return for providing their personal contact information.
